- Review the safety instructions stipulated by the client (personal protective equipment, barriers, preventative fire protection measures)
- Review the means of communication
- Equip the site with safety material
- Raise alarms during emergencies in accordance with the emergency plan
- Initiate rescue measures
- Review the work in the plants
- Undertake fire watches, safety lookouts and clearance measurements (depending on area of activity and level of training)
- Report to the safety supervisor
- Detect potential hazards
- Qualification

- Basic safety training
- Medical preventative examinations
- Training in respiratory protection in compliance with current guidelines
- Experience with shutdowns
- Training as fire and safety officer
- Reading and evaluation of measurements
- Instruction in emergency behavior response
- First aid training
