It must be a record: organic chemistry has approximately 15 million carbon compounds. The manufacturing and use of these compounds usually creates toxic and/or explosive substances, in particular alkenes, aromatic compounds, aldehydes, halogenated and unsaturated hydrocarbons. Also included are approximately 500,000 inorganic compounds in the metal, salt and oxide families. Different industrial gases are essential for a great number of reactions.

The great variety of chemical processes and products makes one thing crystal clear: there is no ready-made safety solution available for all chemical plants and operations.
